General Hockey RHS

Wednesday 22 January:

Junior 1st XI v Woodbridge (W 2-0): The first team improved over the week overcoming Woodbridge 2-0. A good finish from Fergus Atkins on his reverse stick and a bullet strike from the top of the D from Tom Ponsonby sealed the win for RHS.

2nd XI v Woodbridge (L 1-0): The 2nds produced a fine all round performance from a new team showing excellent promise for the forthcoming games. An impressive display from Harry Sargent and Harry Fosker in defence was supported by fine efforts from Finn Anderson and Will Carter. Despite dominating possession, RHS failed to convert and lost to a breakaway goal in the second half.

3rd XI v Woodbridge (L 1-0): At home the 3rds lost 1-0 but Cameron Jordan played well in attack.

4th XI v Woodbridge (W 3-2): A win for the 4th XI with keeper, Max Cullinane, having a great match.

Saturday 25 January:

U14A v Framlingham (L 5-0): The U14As performed well against a very strong Framlingham side. Xavy Bull and Charlie Kilham had an excellent games, repelling most attacks with skill and determination. Ben Arulampalam also played well. Despite a lot of positive play, RHS lost the game 5-0 with Sam Christmas playing valiantly in goal to keep the score down.

U14B v Framlingham (L 2-0): Away the U14Bs played in an open end to end game but unfortunately the opposition forwards were more clinical than the RHS strike force and an even game ended 2-0 to the home side.

U15A v Framlingham (L 2-3): The U15As played in a tightly contested and physical match. An early goal from Framlingham forced  RHS to increase their intensity. Excellent shape in the midfield, particularly from man of the match, Richard Vallance, produced chances which Alex Finding and Ben Conner converted into goals. However, Framlingham managed to answer back for every goal, making the final score 2-3.

U15B v Framlingham (L 2-1): The U15Bs lost 2-1 with Matt Saxby once again on the score sheet and Lexy Peterson being heroic in goal.

3rd XI v Framlingham (L 4-2): After a sparking first half performance and good goal by Matt Cantelo, RHS 3rds were worthy leaders at half time. However, 2 minutes of madness immediately after half time allowed Framlingham to score three goals. RHS came back with a cracking goal from Charlie Wuidart-Gray but unfortunately Framlingham scored again in the last minute to make the score 4-2. George Petrides and Cameron Kerr were men of the match.

2nd XI v Framlingham (D 1-1): The 2nd XI began slowly and conceded a breakaway goal after just three minutes. The rest of the first half chances were squandered including a run of four penalty corners. In the second half RHS had all the possession but only managed one goal -the well struck equaliser by Alex Rayment came from a tight angle. Man of the match was Will Matthews.

1st XI v Framlingham (L 4-1): The 1st XI suffered a 4-1 defeat against a tidy Framlingham side. The team composed themselves after half time and Jessie Vogel found the back of the net but the damage had been done. Player of the match was Drew Felstead.

Hockey

U13B v Old Buckenham Hall (L 4-0)

The RHS players started off really slowly despite a lengthy warm up and were soon bombarded by OBH attacks which resulted in 3 quick goals. The girls redeemed themselves in the second half and started to play some good flowing hockey. Unfortunately Goal Keeper Molly Irving was injured and had to be replaced. OBH managed to score resulting in a 4-0 defeat. Molly Williamson added strength to the RHS attack and Captain Holly Folkard-Smith showed her usual solid defensive skills as Centre midfield.

U12A v St Joseph’s College (L 2-1)

An early goal from Molly Entwistle put the RHS team in a commanding position however St Jo’s scored before half time and then again against the run of play early in the second half. The RHS team, despite numerous long corners, could not convert. Player of the match was Charlotte Stenning in defence. Final score 2-1.

U12B v St Joseph’s College (W 3-0)

Starting off full of confidence RHS played some very good hockey using each other and looking for the early pass. A great goal from Amelia Anderson started the ball rolling and then Morgan Thomas added 2 more in the second half. Freya Guckian had a good game as left midfielder as did Lily Provan in defence. Rosie Butler had her best game yet in goal.

U13A v St Joseph’s College (W 7-0)

The A team played away at St Jo’s and proved the stronger team coming home triumphant. Tilly Arulampalam scored 3 goals, Millie Salter 2, Tor Williams 1 and Catie Bennett another 1. The player of the match was Catie Bennett for her outstanding performance as striker.

U13B v St Joseph’s College (D 1-1)

The B team played a very even match and the final score of 1-1 was a fair reflection of the play. Molly Williamson and Lucy Wilsher player very well and Lauryn Marshall scored an excellent goal. Player of the match was Shennise Robertson.

2nd XI v Ipswich High (L 1-0)

The second XI suffered a cruel defeat to Ipswich High on Thursday as they conceded with the last touch of the game to lose 1-0. Some bright runs from Chloe Tribe and Cesca Morelli threatened for RHS but no breakthrough came until the visitors capitalised on a final play short corner.

2nd XI v Woodbridge (L 2-1)

The second XI lost 2-1 away at Woodbridge on Saturday. A weakened team went 2-0 down before an excellent goal from Flo Peacock got RHS back within touching distance. Despite a much stronger second half, RHS couldn’t score another and were unfortunate to finish 2-1 down.

3rd XI v Woodbridge (D 0-0)

The 3rds played an end to end thrilling match away at Woodbridge, but remained goalless. RHS had a stronger second half and Tabitha Palmer showed determination throughout. Some excellent saves from Alice Vickers ensured a 0-0 finish.

U14 v Woodbridge (D 2-2)

The U14A team continued their season against a well-drilled Woodbridge team; RHS raced out of the blocks and took a two goal lead thanks to good play from Captain Beth Dwerryhouse. In the first twenty minutes RHS played their best hockey of the season with Kyla Conway and Amelia Kightley-Webb looking particularly strong. However, after such a good first half RHS were guilty of taking their foot off the pedal and allowed Woodbridge to come into the game. Despite some very good performances, RHS could not maintain their lead and the game finished 2-2. Player of the match was Amelia Kightley-Webb.

U15A v Woodbridge (W 4-0)

The whole team really pulled together last week to earn an excellent 4-0 victory over Woodbridge. Although determined from the start and leading 2-0 at half time, the players did not really show their true colours until the second half. Olivia Jones scored twice with deflections from crosses and Millie Orr added two, one from a short corner set piece and one from a deflection from the goal keeper. The team kept their composure and structure showing skills gained in practice and training. Well Done!

1st XI v Ipswich High (D 0-0)

Tuesday saw the 1st XI take on local rivals Ipswich. A hugely frustrating game as all four forwards bombarded the Ipswich goal. Emily Davidson Brett, Charlie Baldwin- Cole, Beth Richardson and Annie Fenton were all beaten by the superb goal keeping skills of the Ipswich keeper. The score ended in a goalless draw.

Hockey

Junior Teams v Culford

U13A

The girls started very well and scored a goal within the first 5 minutes. Culford fought back and the first half was fairly evenly matched

RHS stayed focused and scored 2 more goals in the second half with fluid play throughout, leaving the final score at 3—0. Libby Parker was making some good tackles and working well with Annie Tavainevasi in defence. George Nicholls made some excellent saves in goal, including a spectacular dive. Millie Salter scored a text book goal from a short corner.

Player of the match was Libby Parker. Goals were scored by Tilly Arulampalam, Tori Williams and Millie Salter.

U13B

The U13Bs took yet another step of improvement in their hockey on Wednesday. However, some naive play and, at times, lack of thought left the girls coming away with a 3-2 defeat. A strong midfield performance from Emily Fretwell was the highlight for RHS.

U12A

This was a very even match with play flowing from end to end. RHS were solid in defence with Ruby Parker and Charlotte Stenning clearing the ball skilfully. Unfortunately Culford were the team to score after many chances on both sides.

Final score 1—0 Culford. Player of the match was Ruby Parker.

U12B

This proved to be a great game for the B team; they started off very positively and focused and showed real determination in their attacking skills, trying hard to implement skills learnt in practice.

Rebecca Sweeney dominated the middle area as did Isabelle Butler in defence however; Eliza Tribe was the star of the show scoring a hat-trick. She was player of the match for her attacking drive and determination to score. Rosie Butler also had a good game in goal keeping the Culford team out of winning contention

Final Score 4-2

U13A&B, U12A v Orwell Park

U13A

The U13 A team played a strong side and rose to the challenge. The game was fast and skillful. Tilly Arulampalam controlled the play very well from the centre and Millie Salter scored an excellent goal in the first half. George Nicholls made some spectacular saves and the half time score was 1—0 to RHS. Orwell started the second half with determination and were rewarded with a goal. Annie Tavainevesi was marking closely in the circle and was very strong in defence.

Unfortunately RHS had 2 injuries which affected our rhythm and the final score was 3—1 to Orwell. Player of the match was George Nicholls for exceptional goal keeping.

U13B

The U13 B team had a resounding victory on Saturday against Orwell park.

The girls were strong in attack and were 5—0 up at half time. Holly Folkard -Smith was strong in midfield. The final score was 8—0. Player of the match was Beth Carnell, scoring 4 goals.

U12A

On Saturday the team played against Orwell Park U13B, after a promising start the team were unable to convert their moves out of defence and really struggled with their passing skills, despite having tackled and won the ball. The final score was a disappointing 7-0 loss. Player of the match was Charlotte Stenning. Thanks must go to Rosie Butler who deputised in goal, playing for the A team for the 1st time.

Senior Fixtures

3rdX v Woodbridge

On Tues the 3rdX1 played against Woodbridge at home. Going out strong from the beginning they dominated in attack. The final score was 2-0 with player of the match Shannon Holdway scoring both goals.

U14A v Wymondham

Despite losing the game, the under14 A team gave their performance of the season so afar playing some excellent attacking hockey. Captained by talented midfield Beth Dwerryhouse, RHS created lots of opportunities to score. The defence looked very solid, showing good determination and spirit. Izzy Pearson played her best game yet, scoring an opportunistic goal from a short Corner. Beth Dwerryhouse scored a breakaway goal, but we just ran out of time losing 3-2. Well done girls, we are improving with every game.

2nd X1 v Wymondham

On Saturday the 2nd XI returned to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Wymondham College. A brace a piece from Cesca Morelli and Flo Peacock settled the result as the home team controlled the majority of the game. Excellent 2nd XI debuts from Simone Rossouw, Millie Ainsworth and Millie Orr just put the icing on the cake for RHS.

1st X1 v Wymonham

The 1st XI played with grit and determination to secure a 3-3 drew against Wymondham on Saturday. Although RHS started both halves brightly, Wymondham scored against the run of play. Undeterred, RHS played confidently and some excellent build-up play by Sophie Opielok lead to superb goals from Charlie Baldwin-Cole, Alina Lelke and Hannah Dale. Player of the match was Alina Lelke.

Hockey

The 2nd XI played against Langley on Tuesday 15 October at home. In the first half RHS dominated and took an early lead when a right hand cross was converted by Cesca Morelli sneaking the ball inside the left post. RHS should have capitalised on this however, despite making some good runs down our strong side, actual clear strikes on goal were few and far between. RHS also had at least 6 penalty corners in the second half and failed to convert any of these. Two minutes from the end Langley, who had been threatening made a break, were awarded a penalty corner which they duly converted to tie the score line. RHS players will be disappointed that they were unable to take their chances when they had them. The defensive four, Philippa and Sarah Murrison, T-J Sunuwar and Lizzie Banks once again all had good games and their understanding of each other’s play is consolidating.

The U13A and B teams played Norwich at home on Wednesday. The Norwich A team were a very strong side. The first half was end to end but Norwich were on target and 2-0 up at half time. RHS fought back and Tilly Arulampalam scored 2 excellent goals in quick succession early in the second half. George Nicholls made some spectacular saves in goal but, unfortunately, Norwich scored another goal just before full time. The girls played very well as a team, in dreadful conditions, and the final score was 3-2. Player of the match was Tilly Arulampalam.

The B team also suffered defeat against Norwich but fought right until the end. Holly Folkard-Smith scored a great goal in the second half in a player of the match performance.

The U12A and B hockey teams travelled to Norwich on Wednesday. The A team encountered a very strong Norwich side and whilst the first 10 mins was very even at 2-1, Norwich gradually pulled away to put past another 6 goals. RHS defence battled well and in particular Charlotte Stenning had a great game (on her birthday too!) as did goal keeper Katie Bagnall who was pummelled with Norwich shots.

The summer holidays ended early for the senior boys’ rugby team and senior girls’ hockey team as they returned to RHS for pre-season training.

The 22 boys underwent a full programme of skill, fitness and team building. They were also treated to an inspirational coaching session from an ex-Harlequins coach and a briefing on new laws from an RFU referee trainer. They also plays two competitive training matches against local clubs scoring over 70 points and conceding only 7. Proving that preparations for the season have gone well and we wish captain Dan Smith and his squad good luck.

RHS Pre-season Rugby

Senior RHS boys back for pre-season rugby

The senior girls enjoyed a comprehensive programme of training which will stand them in good stead for the forthcoming season and a big thank you must go to Miss Anderson, Mrs Nutton and Mr Battman for their superb organisation and preparation.
