On Thursday 13 March Year 10 mathematicians took part in a challenge organised by the Further Mathematics Support Programme.
The competition involves teams of four working together on a set of mathematical problems in regional heats. Over 50 events have taken place across the country in February and March to qualify for the finals next month.
After a slow start, the Royal Hospital School team of Lexine Lee, Joe Barraclough, Crystal Li and Jack Cuddihy gained pace and momentum, finishing as “runners up” beaten only by Colchester Royal Grammar School.
The team has gained a place in the final of this competition at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge – which was the location of the lectures by Andrew Wiles proving Fermat’s Last Theorem. We wish the team the best of luck!
