General Hockey RHS

Junior 2nd v New Hall (W 7-0)
This was a fine game to end the season with all players working together to fashion 7 goals against a New Hall team that always presented a threat. The superb defence of Sargeant and Fosker proved impenetrable, so much so that Fosker was able to foray forward and score his first goal for the School. Fin Anderson was unstoppable in front of the goal and bagged a hat trick with some expert dribbling and shooting. Overall a great performance from a team that has gelled very well over the term.

Junior 1st Team v New Hall (W 8-0)
The junior first team rounded off the season in style as they beat New Hall 8-0. It was nice to see the team not just dominate the game, but play good hockey at the same time in order to pass the ball around the opposition. While the attacking made great viewing, Toby Braybrooke played well and made some fantastic saves in goal to keep an RHS clean sheet.

U15B v Felsted (W 2-0)
The U15Bs took the honours in their final game of the season at Felsted. In an even match, it was RHS that took their chances. Cedric Hoskyns-Abrahall opened the scoring with a great finish to the bottom corner after he took the ball off Rory Sellers in the opposition D. After withstanding heavy pressure for a long period of the second half, RHS eventually broke away at pace and Sam Cantelo put the result to bed with another fine low finish to win the game 2-0.

U15A v Felsted (L 3-1)
The RHS team played a game they can be proud of in their final match of the season. Their end-to-end play was the most consistent to date, and Felsted were held to very few scoring opportunities thanks to great efforts on behalf of RHS’s back 4 defenders. Relentless efforts from Sam LeRoy and Toby Buckland supported transitional play and Ben Conner capitalized on a fast break by scoring a crafty lofted goal over the charging keeper. A positive end to the season.

General Hockey RHS

U15A v Langley (W 2-1)
Midweek the RHS U15As played Langley with a fresh and re-vamped line-up. Langley started well and set RHS on their heels in the first half, scoring with their first attacking penalty corner. After half-time, utilising more teamwork in the midfield, RHS mounted a better attacking effort and Alex Finding and Toby Allday each scored a goal to seal the victory with a 2-1 final result.

1st v Langley (W 5-1)
The first team played Langley on Tuesday. Some good hockey resulted in five well worked goals in a very one-sided encounter. Unfortunately RHS couldn’t keep the score sheet clean and the game finished 5-1.

U14B v Ipswich (D 3-3)
The U14Bs finished off their season with a fine display against a strong Ipswich side. The hosts could not cope with the pace attack of Harry Pugh and Kev Tavainavesi who both scored breakaway goals. Ipswich pressed the game and also scored twice despite valiant saves from keeper Baillie Malyon. RHS then took the lead through a fine following move finished off by Will Jenner. Ipswich rallied in the last few minutes of the game to tie the match at 3-3.

U14A v Ipswich (L 2-0)
The U14As started relatively slowly giving the ball away under little pressure but they stayed in the game and, thanks to Charlie Miles, were showing promise. A well worked routine meant Ipswich scored the first goal and a scramble in our D resulted in the second. Despite the loss, the team can be very proud of their development this season. Player of the match was Charlie Miles.

2nd v Ipswich  (D 2-2)
The 2nds played well in the first quarter and went deservedly ahead with a goal by Brendan Tait. Ipswich pressed after the interval and RHS conceded a goal, however they quickly responded with a good goal by Toby Eaton. Ipswich continued to apply the pressure but some outstanding defence, especially by goalkeeper Sam Connor, kept them out until the last 10 minutes. An excellent 2-2 draw against the best side on the circuit.

1st v Ipswich (L 9-1)
The first team came up against Ipswich in their final game of the season. Despite playing much some excellent hockey, they were undone on numerous occasions by a very strong and clinical Ipswich side. It wasn’t all doom and gloom for RHS though as Peter Crockett scored after a great Josh Allday run to ensure they didn’t finish goalless. The final score was 9-1 against a team bristling with high level performers.

Juniors vs Old Buckenham Hall (OBH)

The junior first team lost 1-0 in  tight encounter against OBH last week. They were solid at the back with Max Orr in goal and Hayden Craft and Alex Oxley in defence.  A positive result against a team who have qualified for the mini-hockey regional finals.

The 2nds struggled in the first half against a slick opposition with superior skills but after some re-organisation at half time they were able to contain OBH. The hosts proved too strong running out winners 6-0

The 3rds lost 3-2 in a close encounter. A sweeping move was finished by Will Kempster to take the lead and a really good individual run and finish from Tom Brown was also a highlight.

The junior fourth team enjoyed a great day out against OBH, winning 9-0. Cory Stone in midfield pulled the strings but still managed to get himself a hat-trick for yet another week. Ben Waylett ended up with three goals, Harvey Crallan got two and Josh Waylett one in a comprehensive victory.

House Hockey

There was some good hockey played during the Intermediate Inter House Hockey and1st place was taken by Collingwood with 2 draws and a win. Hawke took second place on goal difference.

The Seniors played an indoor competition. Raleigh came out over all victors beating Collingwood in the final game 3-2. All teams played some fluent hockey with competitive, yet friendly, spirit.

General Hockey RHSU14B v Norwich (W 2-1)
Away the U14Bs won 2-1. Goals came from Jake Simpson and Harry Pugh were highlights as was the colossal hitting out of defence by Harry Chavasse.

U14A v Norwich (W 2-1)
The A team also had a fine win. Ben Arulampalam and Will Christmas creating opportunities from midfield. Charlie Miles scored a good goal, converting from close range. In the second half  RHS excelled; Nick Paddon was excellent in supporting the midfield and ensured that the team played the best hockey of the season – Ben Arulampalam secured the win with a cool finish. Charlie Kilham was played of the match.

U15B v Norwich (W 4-2)
U15B had an excellent first half and their performance gave RHS a 4-0 lead with all goals scored by Matt Saxby. In the second half, Norwich passed the ball well and RHS struggled to create any further chances.

U15A v Norwich (L)
The U15A came across a very strong and talented Norwich side losing heavily.

3rd XI v Norwich (L 2-1)
After conceding a very early goal the 3rd XI fought back well and Matt Cantelo scored a remarkable reverse sweep goal to level the score. Spirits were high at half time, but a Norwich goal midway through the second half made the final score 2-1 to Norwich.

2nd XI v Norwich (D 1-1)
A very good performance by the 2nd XI in a closely contested game. RHS played attractive, controlled hockey and forced a penalty corner midway through the first half which was driven home by Brendan Tait. Goalkeeper, Sam Connor, snuffed out any threat from the visitors. Norwich pressed for an equaliser late in the game but the RHS defence looked in control, led capably by Will Anstey.

1st XI v Norwich (L 4-1)
The 1st XI started slowly against Norwich as Lyam Thorpe’s excellent goalkeeping kept the deficit down to 2 within the first ten minutes. In the second half, the midfield of Josh Allday and Tom Miller created numerous chances for the home team, but unfortunately they could only capitalise on one of these as Ollie Lovejoy finished off a well-worked team goal. Norwich scored another short corner just after this to knock the wind out of the RHS sails and the game finished 4-1.

Junior Teams v Norwich

The junior first team played their first eleven aside game of the season. They struggled at the start against a Norwich team much more experienced in the full pitch game. However, the response was fantastic and, had any of a barrage of shots in the final 2 minutes hit the net, RHS would’ve had a more than deserved result. The game finished 2-0 to Norwich despite some excellent team play along with a stand out performance from Alex Oxley.

The Junior 2nds played a very good game against a skilful opposition. Ed Fairley was tireless in the centre of midfield and Josh Frame organised the defence well. The opposition had few forays into our D, manage to score one and run out winners 1-0

The 3rd team struggled early on to come to terms with the grass pitch. To their credit, they quickly adapted their style and technique and started to turn things around. They dominated large parts of the second half but couldn’t score. Norwich ran out 4-2 winners. Cory Stone and Josh Waylett were especially effective.

The Junior 4ths drew 2-2 playing some reasonable hockey on grass. Elliot Chilvers played well with his big hitting causing problems from defence. Goals came from striker Joe Careless and Luke Clark -Smith played well in goal.

In the County U14 Tournament RHS had a good series of games.

General Hockey RHS

RHS v Framlingham (L 5-0)
In our first game RHS came up against a very strong Framlingham team. Despite playing some decent hockey, in particular by Ben Arulampalam, RHS lost this game 5-0.

RHS v Woodbridge (D 0-0)
Against Woodbridge, in an excellent first half, the team created lots of opportunities but failed to score. Despite dominating large parts of the game, slack finishing meant the game finished at 0-0.

RHS v Culford (W 1-0)
Nick Paddon played very well which meant that we managed to keep the ball for most of the game and an excellent goal from Zack Puckey meant that RHS won 1-0.

RHS v Ipswich (D 0-0)
The final game was against Ipswich. This was a very even game and Scott Taylor managed to get on the ball and create some opportunities. A tiring RHS worked very hard to create openings but really the game could have been won by either team. The final score was 0-0.

Games on Saturday were against Culford.

U14B v Culford (L 5-3)
Kev Tavainavesi scored first from an impossible angle but then the Culford attack proved too quick for our defenders. Further goals from Harry Pugh and Callum Hensby kept RHS in the game until he final whistle.

U14A v Culford (L 4-3)
The U14As started incredibly slowly allowing Culford  the majority of possession, the score at half time was 1-1. In the second half, Elliot Rayment dominated the right hand side and Charlie Miles ran some excellent lines. Despite creating lots of opportunities and playing the better hockey, uncharacteristic soft defending meant we gave away goals far too easily. The final score was 4-3 and players of the match were Elliot Rayment and Will Christmas.

U15B v Culford (D 2-2)
The U15B team drew 2-2 and could easily have scored more with 21 shots in the second half! Goals were converted by Cedric Hoskyns-Abrahall and Matt Saxby. The tireless Toby Oliver was man of the match.

U15A v Culford (L 6-1)
The A team found Culfords finishing too clinical despite some great saves from keeper Lexy Peterson. Final score 6-1 to the hosts.

2nd v Culford (W 3-1)
The 2nds kept great shape and discipline to overcome a spirited Culford side. Goals from Cameron Kerr, Brendan Tait and Harvey Sellers saw RHS home to pleasing win 3-1.

1st v Culford (L 4-2)
The first VII produced their strongest performance of the season so far, but unfortunately still came away on the wrong end of the score line. RHS dominated the first half with Ollie Lovejoy scoring. However, two short corner goals gave Culford an undeserved half time lead. The visitors started strongly in the second half as RHS were slow out of the blocks. Despite this, the team rallied again and Jessie Vogel capped an excellent individual performance with a goal from a penalty stroke to leave the final result a disappointing, yet promising, 4-2 loss

General Hockey RHS

3rd VII v Felsted (W 5-2)
Away at Felsted, the 3rds played with confidence with a final score of RHS 5 Felsted 2. Cantelo scoring twice and other goals by Harwood, Smith and W-Gray. The highlight of the match was watching Cam Kerr beat 4 players and the goalkeeper, then miss an open goal. Man of the match was Tom Harwood.

2nd VII v Felsted (L 1-0)
The game was very even and a fair score would have been 1-1 but RHS hit the post and the Felsted goalkeeper dealt with anything RHS threw at him. Will Matthews played well in mid-field as did Will Anstey in defence.

1st VII v Felsted (L 2-0)
The 1st team recorded a disappointing loss despite being in the ascendancy for most of the game. RHS began the game slowly but gradually played as a team. The second half saw RHS carve some clear chances but they could not put the finishing touches to the excellent build-up play.

The juniors took 6 teams away to Gresham’s on Saturday for their third fixture of the season.

Junior 1st VII (L 4-3) The junior first team lost 4-3 in a game which ebbed and flowed. A hatrick from Fergus Atkins gave RHS their three goals while some stunning saves from Max Orr at the other end kept RHS in the game. The team continue to show promising improvement and are making steady steps towards playing some good hockey.

Juinor 2nd VII (L 5-1) The junior second team had a very poor first half and were 4-0 at the break. They pulled themselves together and came out fighting in the second half. A fine move resulted in a goal for Fin Anderson at the back post to level the second half 1-1, and make the final score 5-1.

3rd VII A valiant effort against a much stronger opposition who moved the ball swiftly and with a directness we struggled to cope with. Our attacks down the right gave us hope and we manufactured a number of chances that we were unable to convert. Full credit must go to the players for their determination and perseverance.

4th VII (L 3-1) This was a display of endeavour that deserved a little more return than it got.  Some strong driving play from Ed Fairley in midfield and the energetic efforts of Waylett and Crallen gave us constant hope of a victory.  Sadly the opposition were more decisive in front of goal and ran out deserved winners 3 – 1.

Junior 5th VII (D 3-3) The fifths took part in a tight match where the lead changed hands. Superb goalkeeping from Max Cullinane ensured RHS went into the break 2-1 up. Although the lead was lost, a late mazy run and accurate shot gave Cory Stone his hat-trick and the side a deserved 3-3 draw.

Junior 6th VII (W 1-0) The sixths went down to a last gasp goal, having more than played their part in a tight encounter. Nick Males defended stoutly and Felix Lucas showed he can strike a hockey ball beautifully. Credit must go to Luke Clark-Smith whose dedication to the cause involved a headed save at one point.

General Hockey RHS

Wednesday 22 January:

Junior 1st XI v Woodbridge (W 2-0): The first team improved over the week overcoming Woodbridge 2-0. A good finish from Fergus Atkins on his reverse stick and a bullet strike from the top of the D from Tom Ponsonby sealed the win for RHS.

2nd XI v Woodbridge (L 1-0): The 2nds produced a fine all round performance from a new team showing excellent promise for the forthcoming games. An impressive display from Harry Sargent and Harry Fosker in defence was supported by fine efforts from Finn Anderson and Will Carter. Despite dominating possession, RHS failed to convert and lost to a breakaway goal in the second half.

3rd XI v Woodbridge (L 1-0): At home the 3rds lost 1-0 but Cameron Jordan played well in attack.

4th XI v Woodbridge (W 3-2): A win for the 4th XI with keeper, Max Cullinane, having a great match.

Saturday 25 January:

U14A v Framlingham (L 5-0): The U14As performed well against a very strong Framlingham side. Xavy Bull and Charlie Kilham had an excellent games, repelling most attacks with skill and determination. Ben Arulampalam also played well. Despite a lot of positive play, RHS lost the game 5-0 with Sam Christmas playing valiantly in goal to keep the score down.

U14B v Framlingham (L 2-0): Away the U14Bs played in an open end to end game but unfortunately the opposition forwards were more clinical than the RHS strike force and an even game ended 2-0 to the home side.

U15A v Framlingham (L 2-3): The U15As played in a tightly contested and physical match. An early goal from Framlingham forced  RHS to increase their intensity. Excellent shape in the midfield, particularly from man of the match, Richard Vallance, produced chances which Alex Finding and Ben Conner converted into goals. However, Framlingham managed to answer back for every goal, making the final score 2-3.

U15B v Framlingham (L 2-1): The U15Bs lost 2-1 with Matt Saxby once again on the score sheet and Lexy Peterson being heroic in goal.

3rd XI v Framlingham (L 4-2): After a sparking first half performance and good goal by Matt Cantelo, RHS 3rds were worthy leaders at half time. However, 2 minutes of madness immediately after half time allowed Framlingham to score three goals. RHS came back with a cracking goal from Charlie Wuidart-Gray but unfortunately Framlingham scored again in the last minute to make the score 4-2. George Petrides and Cameron Kerr were men of the match.

2nd XI v Framlingham (D 1-1): The 2nd XI began slowly and conceded a breakaway goal after just three minutes. The rest of the first half chances were squandered including a run of four penalty corners. In the second half RHS had all the possession but only managed one goal -the well struck equaliser by Alex Rayment came from a tight angle. Man of the match was Will Matthews.

1st XI v Framlingham (L 4-1): The 1st XI suffered a 4-1 defeat against a tidy Framlingham side. The team composed themselves after half time and Jessie Vogel found the back of the net but the damage had been done. Player of the match was Drew Felstead.

General Hockey RHS

On Saturday four Junior teams travelled to Orwell Park:

Junior 1st XI v Orwell (L 4-0)
The junior first team came up against a very strong opposition and lost 4-0. Some great goalkeeping from Max Orr kept RHS in the game.

Junior 2nd XI v Orwell (W 4-1)
The junior second team came out resounding winners 4-1.  Captain Apakuki Daunakamakama made the difference on the day.

Junior 3rd XI v Orwell (W 1-0)
The junior third team won a close match 1-0. Some excellent defending from Hamish Comonte was the highlight for RHS.

Junior 4th XI v Orwell (W 2-0)
The junior fourth team made it three wins out of four at Orwell Park as they finished 2-0 winners. Some brilliant team play tore through the hosts at times with great style.

The U14s and U15s were away at Greshams:

U14B v Greshams (L 4-2)
The B team went 4-0 down in the first half, rallied in the second but fell short losing 4-2.

U14A v Greshams (W 1-0)
Xavy Bull and Charlie Kilham held Greshams at bay after a slow start.  RHS slowly came into the game through excellent link play from Ben Arulampalam and Will Christmas. Toby Lee,  Olly Leggett and Thomas Sumner were also excellent. RHS created lots of opportunities but the deadlock was finally broken when Zach Puckey scored with a smart finish. 1-0 to RHS.

U15B v Greshams (W 5-3)
The B team worked tirelessly to keep a fast breaking Greshams side under wraps and a very good all round display saw RHS run out winners 5-3. Olly Williams with 2 and Matt Saxby with a hat-trick, one of which is a contender for goal of the season!

U15A v Greshams (L 2-1)
The 15A team put together 60 minutes of great hockey making progress with their new formation. Ben Price chased down a ball to beat a Greshams sweeper and deliver a goal early in the first half. A hard-working defence kept the opposition at bay until they scored a late first half goal. In the last 10 minutes, Greshams secured the final score to win 2-1.

At Home against Greshams:

3rd XI v Greshams (L 2-1)
At home, the 3rds ventured onto wet and muddy grass losing 2-1. Greshams were the better side in the first half and at 1-1 the score was flattering RHS. Man of the match was shared between Tom Harwood and George Petrides. Captain Max Dixey also deserves a mention.

2nd XI v Greshams (W 4-0)
The 2nds produced a very well executed 4-0 victory; RHS dominated possession from early in the first half and remained in control until the final whistle. Fast interchanging of passes developed into moves straight from the training ground and goals came in open play and from penalty corners. Toby Eaton and Brendan Tait shared the goals.

1st XI v Greshams (L 4-1)
The 1st XI will reflect on missed opportunities against Greshams. RHS created some excellent opportunities in the first half but could not convert. Greshams scored early in the second half and RHS bounced back with a well-worked corner routine being finished by Man of the Match, Tom Miller. RHS began to tire, while Greshams stepped up to leave the scoreline at 4-1.
