The Great RHS Sewing Bee was inspired by the final project on the Great British Sewing Bee. The competition involves creating a bag with one of two clasps and will be judged at the Bag Show on Friday 18 October 2013. There are four main categories for judging: Unusual Materials, Inspired by Nature, A Nod to Craft and Freedom and all entries must be entered by Monday 14 October to go on display in the Royal Hospital School Art Department atrium.
If you are still looking for some inspiration or need some help on attaching your bag to the supplied clasps then please come along to one of the Bag Workshops on either Saturday 21 September, 5.30 – 8.00pm or Friday 27 September, 7.00 – 9.30pm in the Textiles Room of the RHS Design Centre. There will be time after the demonstrations to have a go on some of the equipment in the Textiles Room including a rug tufting machine!
Both sessions will include:
- 20 minutes meet and greet giving you time to look around the department and enjoy a hot chocolate and cake.
- 40 minute demonstration and talk
- 90 minutes of free reign of the room and equipment giving you the opportunity to make progress with your bag, rummage through scraps and ask for advice. There will be templates available should you wish to work from one.
For more inspiration please take a look at our Pinterest board and feel free to add your own finds to inspire others.
If you wish to attend either of these sessions, please contact Deb Hitchin on firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any special interests that you would like to incorporate in your bag please let Deb know and she will try to have something ready for you.
