The U13s lost their regional 3rd round ‘Jet Cup’ game at New Hall, Chelmsford, by just 16 runs. In a tight affair the Junior 1st XI started well with Cameron Jordan taking out two Essex batsmen. The ‘spin-twins’, Josh Frame and Fergus Atkins, continued the good work before New Hall accelerated to finish on 109 all out their 20 overs with part-time seamer Alex Oxley claiming a super 5 wicket haul. In reply our batsman started well before the run-out of Frame and New Hall’s bowlers started to apply pressure. Atkins batted steadily for 36 before he was bowled in the 16th over with still 30 needed. The U13s tried hard to get there but were restricted by some good New Hall straight bowling.

In the block fixtures against Woodbridge the U12s lost an important toss and were made to bat on a sticky wicket and slow outfield. Hamish Comonte and Harvey Crallen repaired the early damage with a 3rd wicket partnership of 41. Comonte eventually top scored with 24 in his team’s total of 76 all out against some good Woodbridge bowling. Despite a great start by our bowlers which resulted in the opposition being 20 for 3, our support bowlers were not strong enough to force a victory so they lost by 5 wickets.

The U13s defeated Woodbridge by 5 wkts with Josh Frame undefeated on 43 whilst Fergus Atkins made 45. Earlier having won the important toss, our bowlers put Woodbridge under pressure with some impressive bowling although the fielding was not as dynamic as usual.

The U14As also beat Woodbridge by 84 runs with Ben Arulampalam making 67. Arulampalam and Nick Paddon put on an impressive opening partnership especially as we lost the toss and had to bat. Paddon finally fell on 47 as the RHS posted 162 for 3 off their 25 overs. With the bowling shared around the U14s won convincingly by 82 runs.

The U14Bs thumped Woodbridge by 9 wickets at home. We bowled them out for 65 with the wickets shared between Elliott Rayment, Toby Ruffles, Toby Lee, Scott Taylor, Ollie Leggett and Jack Wheeler Brand. Whilst we lost Xavier Bull early for nought, Rayment and Ruffles positively set about chasing down 66. This victory was achieved in just 8 overs.

The U15s enjoyed a great victory over Woodbridge on Lord’s with Michael Cowdrey and Toby Allday splendidly putting on 169 for the first Wicket. Cowdrey went on to score his first RHS century with an undefeated 115. The U15s bowled them out for 62 with William Parmenter Stratta taking 4/16 and RHS won by 107 runs.

rounders ball

U13B v Orwell Park (Lost 17.5-20)
The team started well with a good innings of 10 rounders. Annie Paddon scored on every hit with superb left-handed shots that flummoxed the opposition. Beth Carnell also took great risks with her running which paid off to build up the score. RHS then fielded and, to begin with, kept the score down with composed fielding. Unfortunately, some mistakes then crept in allowing Orwell to capitalise. Annie Paddon bowled well and Morgan Thompson as backstop controlled the game well. With RHS leading 10-9 at half time it was all to play for. RHS batted again with Shennise Robertson scoring well this time and Lucy Wong sneaking half rounders when she could. However they only made a total of 17.5. Orwell were put under pressure to begin with and were kept at bay. There was some good fielding from the RHS team; Alice Killian on 2nd base was very secure and Nuria playing her final game for the School made an excellent catch. It was in the last 5 bowls that RHS let it slip and Orwell scored a total of 4.5 off 5 bowls taking them into the lead. An exciting finish to the game!

U12 v Orwell Park U13C (Won 18-11)
The U12s beat Orwell Park U13Cs in convincing fashion on Wednesday. Captained by Lucia Soler, the girls put in a solid first innings of batting, scoring 11 rounders, and the whole team got on the score sheet in some way or another. After some fantastic fielding and bowling the girls only conceded 2.5 rounders in the first half. By the end of the match, RHS had won 18-11 with standout all round performances from Lily Mason and Esme Peter, and some great fielding from Rosie George. Player of the match was Lucia Soler.

U13A v Orwell Park (Lost 39-16)
The U13A team played a game of ‘All Out Rounders’ as opposed to ‘Counted Balls Rounders’ at Orwell Park. The first innings was a close fought contest with both teams very focused and some excellent fielding from Millie Salter, Tilly Arulampalam and Libby Parker.  Tilly and Millie were the last 2 RHS players left in and they made it difficult for Orwell Park to get them out by excellent batting and speedy sprinting. The score after the first innings was 7—7.5 in favour of RHS. In the second innings, Orwell ran away with the match with 2 players left in for a long time and a cumulative score of 39 rounders. Millie Salter made two excellent catches, fielding at 2nd deep and RHS brought their score up to a credible 16 with George Nicholls, Holly Folkard Smith and Libby Parker being the last 3 players left in. The final score was 39-16 in a very different game compared to what the girls usually play. Player of the match was Millie Salter.

U15A v Langley (L 15.5- 16)
The U15A played against Langley School in rather slippery conditions. The RHS team made a number of fielding mistakes to allow Langley to score 9.5 in the first innings and they could only score 7 in their 1st innings. With 7 RHS players being put out during the innings through either hitting to the opposition or making the wrong decisions on running. The 2nd innings was much tighter. RHS fielded much better and restricted Langley to 6.5. Captain Charlene Tait made two very good catches. Going in to bat RHS were far more observant and positive with Cassia Peacock in particular scoring every hit by selectively placing the ball. However 5 players were put out in the last 10 bowls leaving Langley ahead by ½ rounder. Cassia was named player of the match.

Thirty swimmers from the Royal Hospital School are taking part in this year’s Great East Swim held at Alton water on Saturday 21 June. The Royal Hospital School pupils have been taking part in an intensive schedule of training in the School pool with their coach, Emma Cook, to prepare them for this tough challenge and over the weekend some of team were able to experience open water swimming and try out swimming in wetsuits at Tri-farm, a Tri-athlon venue near Chelmsford. They gained some great tips on body position, breathing technique and how to negotiate the various marker buoys around the course. All the swimmers found the experience useful and they look forward to the swim next week more confident and well prepared.
