With your sons very much being a part of the techno generation, I thought that the best way to touch base with you, as parents, was in a way much more fitting with the current social networking climate! I have decided that the boys will take it in turns to blog about their experiences here, at RHS, for you to read about. I will of course be keeping you up to date individually where necessary, but I thought you might like an insight into their everyday lives here at school.
Everything has started to settle down here as everyone gets back into the swing of things. On the whole, the boys are doing well. They have got stuck into their work and merits are flying my way frequently. We have had a few missed pieces of prep but I am keeping on top of this and have spoken to the culprits. In our tutor periods, we have been discussing time management and being resilient, both of which are essential to survive the fast-paced world at RHS!
The Year 7s are currently enjoying their Sailing taster weeks and have been eagerly telling me about who fell in or who forgot to watch out for the sail coming around! A personal highlight from last week was the Drake house egg drop. The Year 7 boarders were split into teams and given the task of protecting an egg, with limited resources and a small budget to buy more materials. With the help of Mr Barraclough and the new Deputy Headmaster, Mr Dixon, the beautifully decorated and well protected eggs were ready for flight. With the crowd eagerly awaiting the drop, the eggs were launched from the clock tower to varying degrees of success!
The older boys seem to have got used to life in Blake and are all getting stuck into their activities. They have had some great results on the rugby field and have managed to pick up several merits which they should be very proud of, and Oliver Hurley has gained our very first Cause for Applause from Ms Wilby in Mathematics.
I saw the boys this morning, and you will all be glad to know that they are eagerly looking forward to spending some quality time at home this weekend. I have managed to sign away my weekend to work. I shall no doubt be seeing some of you at the Rugby 7s on Sunday, I’ll be at the one on the BBQ wearing a comedy apron and chef’s hat!
