rhs-cricketWith the public examination season now in full flow there has been a limited amount of senior representative cricket. Instead, the 1st and 2nd XIs travelled to Lords for the T20 Blast between Middlesex, Essex & Sussex – an enjoyable evening was experienced by a group of 40, especially when former pupil, Essex’s Reece Topley, joined our party in the Compton Stand right behind the bowler’s arm and watched the Middlesex’s T20 match v Sussex. Just one hour earlier Reece had enjoyed an excellent performance and was pick of the bowlers in the game between Essex and Middlesex.

Senior 4th XI v Framlingham 3rd XI (W 95 not out)
On a warm Saturday afternoon, our Senior 4th XI defeated Framlingham College 3rd XI by 41 runs thanks largely to Robert Cowper Cowles making a match winning 95 not out whilst Matt Dixey claimed 4 for 23.

U13A v Ipswich (W by 9 wickets)
The performance of the weekend was undoubtedly by U13 Cameron Jordan who has bowled extremely well for RHS in every match so far this season. The Suffolk County bowler took an exceptional 5 for 3 against Ipswich U13s. His County colleagues, Alex Oxley and Fergus Atkins, were both undefeated with 47 and 43 respectively and RHS won by a healthy 9 wickets.

U13B v Ipswich (L by 27 runs)
Ipswich U13B team made 157 for 8 with Tom Ponsonby the pick of our bowlers before we then started hunting down the victory total quite calmly. Ponsonby and Peter Dwerryhouse enjoyed a fine 68-run partnership before wickets started to fall as the pressure mounted in this limited overs game. Our U13B finally finished up 27 runs short in this excellent and enjoyable match at Home.

U12A & B v Ipswich
The U12A lost heavily as did the U12B with both RHS teams failing to make 100 in either innings.

U13A v South Lees Prep (W by 9 wickets)
Earlier in the week, the U13 defeated South Lees Prep by 9 wickets in the National Cup having restricted South Lees to 49 in their 25 overs. Max Orr batted positively and made 42 not out.

U12A v Culford Prep (L)
With the U13 playing their postponed Cup fixture, the U12A had to host Culford Prep Junior 1st XI and duly lost against a side of Year 8 boys. Finn Anderson and Ed Fairly showed some good signs of their potential but could not prevent defeat.

U13B v Culford Prep (W by 4 wickets)
The U13B won their game with Culford Prep 2nd XI, chasing down 127 with Cory Stone making 29 at the top of the order and Toyo looking particularly dominant with the bat. We won easily by 4 wickets.

U12C v St Philomena’s Prep (D)
The U12C enjoyed their coaching game with St Philomena’s Prep from Frinton. This exciting match ended in a tie! Both teams full of inexperienced cricketers playing their very first game. All 24 players caught the ‘cricketing bug’ as it became a real tense affair which culminated with the scores level. A conversation was overheard with two players from opposite teams commenting after the end of the match “how great, exciting and enjoyable their game was, especially the teas, and in particular, the sausage rolls!”
