FirefleetThis has been a busy half of term for the RHS sailing squad, with the School competing in three major inter-school events.

On the first weekend our senior squad travelled to Canterbury for the South East BSDRA Championships. The RHS team made their way through the first round of seven races undefeated and came up against Eton in the semi-finals. Eton were brushed aside with ease to set up a final with Sevenoaks. This proved to be a tough match and RHS narrowly lost a three race series by only one point.

The second competition was the Hoad Shield, hosted by Sevenoaks, involving two junior teams and a senior team from the Royal Hospital School. Both junior teams progressed into the semi-finals where they came up against each other. The two-race series saw the A team come out on top, setting up a final with the ever-strong Sevenoaks squad. They were, however, no match for the Royal Hospital School junior A team who finished as champions, 2-0 in the final.

The seniors also progressed into the finals with six wins to meet Sevenoaks in light and shifty conditions. Another close fought battle put the team in second place.

Last weekend, two senior teams travelled to Rutland water for the Eastern Region Team Racing Championships. The 1st squad earned a spot in the semi-final, undefeated, and they were joined by the 2nds after an excellent performance against Ipswich School in which they won by 9 points. This pitted the RHS 1st team against the RHS 2nd team in the semis. The 1st team came out on top to go through to the final, while the 2nds lost to Oakham in the third place race-off. The final was the Royal Hospital School against Norwich School. Conditions were perfect and, after a slightly nervy first start, RHS went on to dominate winning 2-0 and ending its most successful team racing year to date.
