On Wednesday, two representatives of The Gideons visited the Royal Hospital School to speak in Chapel and present the Year 7 pupils with their own copy of the New Testament Psalms.
The Gideons organisation was founded in 1899 by three American businessmen and was formed to encourage each other in their Christian faith and to spread the knowledge of God. It is named after an Old Testament leader who did great work in the name of God. Today the organisation is global with over 250,000 members in more than 190 countries. Internationally over 1.5 billion scriptures have been presented since their founding.
The Gideons became established in the British Isles in 1949 and the organisation now has 5000 members and has presented over 30 million Gideon Bibles and Testaments.
