On Saturday 11 January sailors from Birmingham University visited the Royal Hospital School for a one-day Team Racing Regatta. Our senior team took part in training in the morning and then competed in a 7 race series after lunch. They won five of the seven races against one of the top university sailing teams in the country.
On the 18 and 19 January, Sophie Opielok and Lulu Knott travelled to Datchet Water to race in the first of the Youth Olympic qualifiers for the Laser 4.7 fleet. Racing was tough with 55 of the country’s best Youth 4.7 sailors. Lulu, who was competing in her first Laser regatta, finished a respectable 35th and Sophie produced some stunning results, finishing 4th overall and named top female sailor.
