The Royal Hospital School Equestrian Team of Oliver, Sophie and Millie Ainsworth and Chloe Tribe had an excellent result at the NSEA Jumping with Style Qualifier at The Jays Equestrian Centre over the weekend.

The Team finished 2nd overall out of a field of 12 teams and as a result they have qualified for the National Schools Championships at Addington in Buckinghamshire on 20-21 October. Individually Millie Ainsworth finished 4th overall and Chloe Tribe 7th out of 52 riders.

The competition is technically very complicated with half the course run over show jumps followed immediately by a course of very testing simulated cross country fences including water trays, corners and arrow heads. Scoring is judged on a combination of jump faults, jump time and rider style for both the show jumping and cross-country sections.

Riddlesworth Hall took first place and other schools competing included Woodbridge School, Orwell Park, Ipswich High, Kings Ely and The Perse.

Alton water hosted their annual Spring Regatta this weekend with 85 boats taking part in three fleets – Slow, Medium and Fast. Twelve RHS pupils took part with some good results!

Saturday saw pleasant Force 3 Easterlies and the junior trio of Luke Bailey in a RS Tera and Freddie Grogono and Alex Slatter in a Feva started strongly with good results in all three races. Our fortunes varied for the senior squad but Nikola Grujic sailed superbly in the medium fleet.

Sunday was again a beautiful day but the wind was not so accommodating. The two final races of the series were run with Freddie and Alex coming first in the slow fleet with Luke a close second. Nikola came 3rd in the medium fleet after two good races.

The squad are now preparing for the Suffolk Schools Regatta at Alton water on 28 June.

To honour the 100th anniversary of Duet, an iconic training yacht operated by the Cirdan Sailing Trust, 60 young people from different communities across the UK will embark on a circumnavigation of the UK this summer; a 2000-mile Voyage to Success. This project is being linked to the 2012 Olympics as a baton will be passed from crew to crew as the voyage progresses. The baton has been expertly hand-crafted by design technology teachers at the Royal Hospital School from an original piece of timber from the Cutty Sark.

The Voyage to Success will consist of eleven legs and the aim is to encourage the young people involved to accept personal responsibility whilst confronting the demands and challenges of life at sea. The experience promotes acceptance of others, no matter what their social or cultural backgrounds and helps to develop a sense of self-belief, confidence and a willingness to face new challenges and take controlled risks.

The Duet started her Voyage on Sunday 27 May from London and the first leg takes her to Harwich, Essex. Once the event is completed the baton will return to the Royal Hospital School where it will be on display in the new Museum and Heritage Centre due to open later this year to commemorate the School’s tercentenary.

Woodbridge won the toss and batted. Good bowling and fielding restricted them to 80, Charlie Miles taking 5 for 16 and Ben Arulampalam 3 for 17. In reply, Toby Ruffles hit a fine 32 and Zack Puckey 26 in a comfortable 5 wicket win. A good all-round performance by a very promising side.
